Show Project Details

Cameron Engineering developed a Master Plan for a portion of Hempstead Lake State Park being transferred to Village ownership. Master Plan included baseball, soccer and lacrosse fields with Musco lighting and irrigation and improved pedestrian and vehicle circulation. Other site amenities include bleachers and press box for the premier field, support building with restrooms, concession and storage, landscaping and streetscape treatment, fencing and site furnishings.

The Master Plan that was implemented for the Skelos Athletic Complex consisted of two soccer fields, a little league / softball field, new comfort building and facility parking. In 2013, Cameron Engineering was called back to the table to redesign and transform the existing little league / softball field referred to as Klein Field into an NCAA Women’s Softball Stadium for use by both the Village of Rockville Centre and Molloy College. The transformation of Klein Field started with the demolition and removal of the chain link back stop and dugouts, removal of the existing clay infield and natural turf outfield. The placement of the new clay infield which includes a high-performance engineered clay, a subsurface drainage system and perimeter trench drain to ensure playability for both users was sited so that the existing sports field lighting could be reused for the stadium.

Bay Park Athletic Complex

Bay Park, NY

Show Project Details

Cameron Engineering was part of a design team that included Hazen and Sawyer Engineering & Arcadis Engineering that provided the contract documents to the Nassau County Department of Public Works for the Flood protection and Site Redevelopment of the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant and surrounding County Park Lands. Cameron Engineering’s scope of work was focused on the Master Planning and Redevelopment of the existing athletic complex / ball fields and sports courts. Our scope of services included programming with the County Department of Public Works officials, preparation of the contract documents and assistance to Hazen and Sawyer & Arcadis Engineering during the bid phase.

The improvements to the athletic complex included new synthetic turf fields. The first of the two fields was designed as a dedicated softball ball field with the flexibility of additional sport fields to be overlaid in the outfield area. The second field was designed as a unique multipurpose baseball / soccer field which incorporates both playing areas into one continuous synthetic turf surface a key feature of the design is the optimal spectator viewing areas with bleachers for both sports. The redevelopment of the facility also includes new sports courts, a children’s playground and precast comfort building. A new lighting package for the complex was designed and coordinated with Musco Lighting, this design will provide for the correct light levels on each of the playing fields, court areas and playground and will also provide the pedestrian movement/walkway lighting throughout the facility with lower level LED lighting included on each of the light poles. Other key design objective of this project included raising the sports fields on average 3.5’ above the current elevation of the site to protect the facility from future storm surges, green drainage design in the form of rain gardens and shoreline walkway improvements.
