Senior Partner

Joseph R. Amato, P.E., LEED AP, is the Senior Partner of Cameron Engineering & Associates, LLP, located in Woodbury, New York, and has been with the firm for more than 25 years. Mr. Amato is also an equity partner and the Chief Operating Officer of the company’s affiliate, Cameron Engineering & Associates of New York, PLLC, located in Midtown Manhattan.  The Firm serves government and businesses alike in the New York Metropolitan Area and beyond.

Mr. Amato is experienced in various aspects of consulting engineering and planning, including mechanical, electrical, structural, environmental, civil, transportation and security engineering; planning; landscape architecture and construction management. Under Mr. Amato’s management, Cameron Engineering has grown into being one of Long Island’s premier engineering and planning firms, and one of NY cities fastest growing engineering firms, having received many local, state, and national awards for many of its projects. As Senior Partner, Mr. Amato coordinates all activities of the Firm. He maintains continuing liaison with clients and is the Engineer-of-Record for significant projects. Mr. Amato also functions as the Partner-in-Charge for the Firm’s major design projects. He is an effective manager of technical and administrative personnel and is responsible for coordination efforts with other design professionals.

Mr. Amato holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree from Pratt Institute and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from Long Island University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and seven other states. His background covers all phases of design engineering and management. His duties normally include engineering presentations, investigations, planning, conceptual project systems design, incorporation of LEED green building strategies and overall quality assurance through implementation of the Firm’s Quality Assurance Program. He also prepares engineering reports and studies consisting of technical and economic analyses, cost effective selection of alternatives, including an energy conservation approaches, and security/IT operations. He assures constructability of the Firm’s design solutions and oversees the Firm’s Construction Management projects.

Mr. Amato has provided innovative design concepts for both new and existing facilities, especially when rehabilitation work requires that construction not interfere with the continuation of ongoing operations. Typical project experience includes hospitals, nursing homes, health care facilities, multi-family residential facilities, hotels, correctional facilities, schools, laboratories, pharmaceutical plants, process/industrial plants, libraries, courthouses, office buildings, central utilities, cogeneration facilities, high pressure steam and high temperature hot water boiler plants, sewage treatment plants, marine environments, marinas, swimming pools, recreational complexes, stadiums and arenas.

He is also experienced with providing complete engineering services for composting facilities, including process air ventilation, water and power distribution, and overall composting design techniques. Mr. Amato has extensive experience with all aspects of civil engineering, municipal engineering, roadways, parking fields, structured parking, infrastructure, zoning issues, construction implementation, maintenance and protection of traffic, and site development plans.

Mr. Amato first became involved with the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC NY) in 1985. He was the Chairman of the Long Island Region; Chairman of the State Legislative Committee; served on the State Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, as well as the 2014-2015 Chairman of ACEC NY and the 2015-2016 National Director, representing New York State at ACEC National.

Recently, Mr. Amato was selected as the 2017 ACECNY Engineer-of-the-Year for his significant contributions to the consulting engineering profession, the council, and his community. He also was selected as the 2017 Honoree at the Boy Scouts of American Theodore Roosevelt Council 8th Annual Design and Construction Reception for his leadership role in consulting engineering with the design and construction industry, as well as his accomplishments as a Life Scout.
